Easy Mutton Chops

Easy Mutton Chops

Eid mubrak everyone! May Allah accept our good deeds Ameen.

Sometimes it feels like we focus too much on food….coming from a food blogger it is oxymoron…what I am saying is that on special occasions like eid, we get carried away with our food planning, preparation, presentation, food photography and pay less attention to the purpose so in today’s post I am keeping everything to a minimum but I promise great taste with basic spices, quick and simple preparation with just a couple of dishes to wash. Since I am using fresh mutton there is no cooking oil in the recipe but feel free to add some as per your liking.

  • 1 kg mutton chops, cleaned and washed
  • 1/4 cup full fat yogurt
  • 1 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tbsp ginger paste
  • 1 tbsp garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  • 4-5 medium sized green chillies
  • sliced garlic

  1. In a big mixing bowl combine mutton, yogurt, salt, pepper, ginger paste, garlic paste and garam masala powder. Mix it all together and refrigerate for 4-5 hours. Overnight would be ideal.

  2. Place a large wok on the stove and turn the flame on medium high.

  3. Add marinated mutton to the wok. Cover and cook.

  4. When mutton releases water, in about 7-10, lower the heat to low. Meat will cook in its own juices and fat.

  5. In about 30-35 meat should be all cooked through. Lower the flame to simmer after giving it a stir and adding whole green chillies and sliced ginger.

  6. Cooking time may vary so adjust accordingly. Serve with Naan or rice and salad.
