Brazillian Lemonade

There is something off with my thought process these days which I need to say out loud before the site starts to sound like ” Heenie Blogs Weather”. So when I start writing a post all I can think about is changing weather, unpredictable weather, harsh weather which is quite weird as I am not the person who brings up this topic during a conversation. If I were given Rorschach ink blot test while I am preparing or typing a post, all my answers would be clouds, dark clouds, clear sky, bright sunlight, raining cats and dogs (literally!) and surely my psychologist would label me crazy beyond repair or what Sebastian tells Ariel in The Little Mermaid, “Sigh! you are hopeless, my child. Completely hopeless.”. Ha! This is interesting and I might take an online test just for fun right after I finish this post and if I get any decent/fun evaluation I might share it on the blog. Speaking of sharing on the blog it has been a while since I posted a cold beverage recipe and it was Strawberry Iced Tea I believe. It is time to up this beverage game and bring some new ideas to this category.

We spent about four years in Saudi Arabia and during that duration recipe options on internet were not as they are today. It was a struggle to find reliable, tried and tested recipes (or may be my searching/surfing skills were below par) and whenever I found a good recipe on a site, I became a loyal follower till there was a point-of-no-creativity and no-challenge. I used to print all the recipes for keep sake and mentioned how it turned out for me on that piece of printed paper. My recipe rating and grading system included stars, sad and happy faces and levels of struggle and frustration. I have a folder with all the printed recipes I have collected over the time and even today I search my own collection before googling and yes even today I go through all this trouble of printing and filing instead of online bookmark or screen shots. I am old fashioned, what can I say! Anyway, those years were the best food experimental days for me.. I learned a lot, developed new skills, tried different cuisines and incorporated it to our regular desi cooking.

While going through my folder I saw this forgotten lemonade recipe which was found on Very Best Baking a long time ago. It brought so many fun memories.. there were stains on that slightly crumpled paper with a five star personal rating highlighting the fact that it was tried and tested in my kitchen and was family and friend approved. Lemonade is a perfect summer beverage with a subtle balance of sweet, sour and tangy. Ask any grown up about his favorite things about summer and there will be some variation of lemonade. Offer any child a chilled glass of refreshing lemonade after school or sports and you’ll be an instant hero. Serve this full of flavor drink to any gathering, small or large they would surely love it. This pretty straight forward recipe is such an amazing variation of good old fashioned lemonade involving only a few ingredients and everything is mixed in a blender. There is a touch of sweetened condensed milk which gives a slight milky color to it and makes it smoother than regular lemonade without being overpowering. It calls for limes which are mostly seedless and in case you don’t find limes easily, use lemons but make sure to remove the seeds first and then add to the blender otherwise your lemonade could become quite bitter. I have tried this recipe with lemon juice and it was great too just lacked that kick you get from whole limes/lemons. Blend, strain and serve immediately as there are limes/lemons blended with skin and it will turn the beverage bitter if not served and consumed as soon as it is made.

P. S: It will be a perfect iftar drink.
